The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has honored 130 athletes for their achievements in international, continental, and regional competitions as part of its continued support for the development of sports in the Kurdistan Region.
The third edition of the awards ceremony was organized by the KRG General Directorate of Sports at Peshawa Hall, with the participation of Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw, KRG Deputy Minister of Culture and Youth Arian Salahaddin, Director General of Sports Sardar Ismail, government officials, and athletes.
Athletes who secured first, second, and third places in world, Arab, Asian, and continental championships were recognized. The awards covered both individual and team sports, including competitions for male and female athletes.
Governor Khoshnaw praised the dedication of athletes and coaches, emphasizing that supporting sports and developing athletic talent are among the government’s priorities. He said the achievements of Kurdish athletes serve as motivation for future generations to pursue excellence in sports.
The athletes expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for his continued support of clubs, teams, and individual competitors since the beginning of the ninth cabinet, saying such recognition encourages them to continue representing the Kurdistan Region in international competitions.
Among those honored was Kazhin Taha, supervisor of the Kirkuk Fatat team, who thanked the government for supporting athletes.
“Teams and athletes work hard every day to compete in international tournaments. This support gives us greater motivation to continue achieving success,” Taha said.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, awards and certificates of appreciation were presented to the successful athletes in recognition of their accomplishments.
