KRG Prime Minister opens Iraq’s highest bridge

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister highlights continued development projects, public safety concerns, and ongoing efforts to form the new Iraqi and Kurdistan governments..

Soran, Kurdistan Region — On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Masrour Barzani inaugurated the Soran Overpass and the new 40-meter dual-carriageway road project, describing the bridge as the highest in Iraq and an important step in strengthening the region’s infrastructure.
During his keynote speech, the Prime Minister said the project will greatly benefit the people of Soran and nearby areas, adding that further phases are planned to complete the roadway network and improve regional connectivity. He praised the local “Kavin Group” for successfully carrying out the project, emphasizing the growing capability of Kurdish companies to deliver major developments across the Kurdistan Region.
Barzani stressed that public service projects have continued despite years of instability and conflict, including during the war against ISIS. He stated that the Kurdistan Regional Government remains committed to continuing development projects in both stable and difficult times to improve services for citizens.
The Prime Minister also addressed recent tragic drowning incidents, including the deaths of three individuals after a vehicle fell into the Gali Ali Bag River. He thanked Civil Defense teams for their recovery efforts and urged citizens to follow traffic and safety regulations and avoid dangerous areas.
On the political front, Barzani commented on efforts to form Iraq’s new federal government in Baghdad, expressing support for Prime Minister-designate Ali Zaidi and reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to defending its constitutional rights within Iraq. He stated that Kurdish participation in Baghdad’s government and parliament is aimed at protecting the rights of both the people of Kurdistan and Iraq while strengthening relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
He also expressed hope that political progress in Baghdad would help reactivate the Kurdistan Parliament and accelerate the formation of the next Kurdistan Regional Government.
