The sixteenth Kurdish Film Festival opened in Hamburg on November 19 and will run for five days, bringing together filmmakers and audiences from across the Kurdish diaspora.
This year’s edition features twenty one Kurdish films produced in all four parts of Kurdistan. Under the theme Remembrance Resistance and a Heartfelt Perspective on the Four Parts of Kurdistan, the festival began with a musical performance by DERSIM JEMIL, followed by the screening of The Virgin and Child, a film portraying the life of a Yezidi Kurdish girl.
The official selection includes three feature films, twelve documentaries, and six short films. The program also highlights a film by Kurdish director KURDWIN AYUB from Europe, alongside several short films created by Kurdish youth in Germany.
In the competition section, the festival has allocated a prize of one thousand euros for the Best Kurdish Film and another one thousand euros for the Best Kurdish Documentary.
Organized annually by Kurd Art and die Theater, the festival has grown into an important cultural platform for Kurdish filmmakers in the diaspora to present their work and strengthen artistic exchange.
