Renowned Kurdish artist Shahribana Kurdi has announced the launch of two new musical projects, marking a significant moment in her long-standing artistic journey. The artist also made a special appearance at the third annual Shal and Shapk Festival in Zakho, where she performed a selection of folkloric and original songs.
Born in 1973 in Izmir, Turkey, Shahribana Kurdi is a prominent figure from Northern Kurdistan. She released her first album, Ez Kechm Kecha Kurdanm (I Am a Kurdish Girl), in 1991 and has since produced several albums that celebrate Kurdish identity and culture.
Speaking about her recent visit to Zakho, Kurdi said, “I haven’t been to Zakho for 17 years. Back then, it was a small town, but now it has developed significantly. I’m happy to enjoy this city once again.”
At the festival, she captivated the audience with a mix of traditional folk songs and newer compositions. “I will sing several folk songs for my fans, and I have several new songs ready as well,” she shared, adding that she is also preparing to unveil two new projects soon.
Her presence at the festival and the announcement of her upcoming work have been warmly welcomed by fans and followers of Kurdish music, reinforcing her lasting influence in the region’s cultural landscape
