Zakho club secures spot in Asian football championships

Zakho club secures spot in Asian football championships
Zakho Football Club has successfully passed the evaluation process of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), earning the right to compete in next season’s Asian football championships. The club is one of four Iraqi teams to receive approval from the AFC.
Alongside Zakho, Al-Zawraa, Al-Shorta, and Karbala clubs were also granted eligibility to participate in AFC competitions, including the prestigious AFC Champions League and other continental tournaments.
Several Iraqi Premier League clubs had submitted their applications earlier this season, aiming to qualify for international competition either through league standings or by winning the Iraq Cup. However, only four clubs met the AFC’s licensing and eligibility criteria.
The remaining applicants did not fulfill the necessary requirements and, as a result, were denied participation in next season’s Asian competitions.
