10th Halabja pomegranate festival celebrates culture

The 10th Pomegranate and Autumn Festival kicked off on October 31, 2024, at Halabja’s City Park, drawing hundreds of attendees and showcasing the region’s rich cultural heritage. Under the slogan “National identity and authenticity, protection and development of local products, and advancement of cultural and artistic activities,” the festival highlights the pride and tradition of Halabja, running for three days of festivities.

This year’s event, jointly organized by the Halabja Agricultural Directorate, the Halabja Organizations Network, and the Halabja General Directorate of Tourism, features an expanded array of products beyond the famed pomegranates, with a broader selection of local farmers’ goods on display. Enhanced preparations and increased participation have added to the festival’s vibrancy, underscoring its importance as a cultural landmark in the region.

Despite less rainfall for this year’s pomegranate crop, careful irrigation and maintenance have resulted in a unique and robust flavor. Last year’s festival, held on November 2, also spanned three days and attracted approximately 300,000 visitors to the region.
