The Galyawa Teaching Centre for Diabetes and Endocrinology in Erbil has expanded its healthcare services, strengthening its role as a leading institution for the treatment, education, and research of diabetes and endocrine disorders in the Kurdistan Region.
More than 50,000 patients are currently registered at the centre and receive comprehensive medical care and medications free of charge through chronic disease registration programmes.
Established in 2024, the centre focuses on three key areas: specialised patient care, medical education and training, and scientific research. It serves a diverse population, including more than 43,000 adult patients, 1,600 children with Type 1 diabetes, and nearly 8,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs).
To support continuous treatment, the centre provides insulin, oral diabetes medications, hormone therapies, and other essential medicines. It also distributes medical supplies to local health clinics, improving access to care across the region.
The facility includes specialised diabetes and endocrinology clinics for adults and children, as well as ophthalmology, nutrition, radiology, ultrasound, laboratory, and pharmacy services, offering comprehensive care under one roof.
