The concept of modernity in the Kurdistan Region is not just a theoretical issue or a dry sociological study, but it also represents an active and continuous process of transformation that is the main goal of transforming the Kurdish society to a more advanced stage of civilization. Modernity is portrayed here as a “national strategy” that, thanks to political stability and visionary leadership, has been able to change and renew the face of life in this part of the country.
If we look back at the history of the Kurdistan Region, we understand that modernization began as a comprehensive project alongside the construction of infrastructure. This change is not limited to facades, architecture, buildings and streets, but also the modernization of the “management mindset.” The Kurdistan Regional Government has been able to put technology and digital systems at the service of the citizens, which is a fundamental step to reduce routine and increase transparency. This kind of modernity that we see and practice in the region is a “constructive” modernity because on the one hand it preserves the authenticity and cultural characteristics and on the other hand it opens the door to science and global progress.
One of the most important achievements of modernity in Kurdistan is the creation of an environment in which the “individual” feels his dignity and worth. When political power provides a modern infrastructure for young people, it actually expands the field of creativity and skills for them. Modernity is used here as a tool to preserve the “regional entity” because a modern and well-established society is better able to meet external challenges.
Modernity in the world is based on the principle of “co-existence.” While modernity has led to the erosion of human values in many parts of the world, modernity has become an umbrella in the Kurdistan Region to protect the rights of minorities and establish a culture of tolerance. This is a model that has made the Kurdistan Region a shining example in the region.
Ultimately, modernity in the Kurdistan Region is not only a change in form, but also a profound transformation of content towards a modern administrative and political system. This process, which is carried out with the support of a national authority and popular support, will ensure that our future generations will thrive in an environment that preserves both its history and its originality and goes hand in hand with the convoy of global civilization. Modernity has strengthened the identity of Kurdistan and made it an integral part of the new world.
