The Kurdish community; The Balance Between Originality and modernity

By Larisa Muhammed

The Kurdish community is at the heart of a major historical turning point: a stage in which it is moving between preserving its original values and embracing the principles of modernity. This transition, which is being carried out under a stable political entity, is a complex and multi-dimensional process that requires a delicate balance between “institutional authority” and “social trust.”
In any society that is moving towards modernity, the question of “legitimacy” and “trust” has become a central theme. In the Kurdistan Region, the legitimacy of power does not only stem from the history of struggle and sacrifice, but is also linked to the “legitimacy of construction and service” that is embodied in reality. The government has been able to build trust and a strong public position by building modern and vibrant institutions. This trust is the main pillar of survival and stability, because when citizens see that institutions represent their aspirations for a decent life, the relationship between the individual and the government transforms from a classical form into a true national partnership.
Today’s Kurdish society, maintains a balance between “tradition” and “innovation” that is unique to itself. Public trust is seen as a moral asset. When the government emphasizes the rule of law and transparency, it is actually strengthening that trust. This is the point at which political modernity in Kurdistan is linked to social values. Trust in power is not only trust in individuals, but also in the “project of the state” that aims to preserve the dignity and decent life of all constituents.
In addition to this, the problem with the law is that it is governed by the rule of law. The Kurdistan Region as a leading model in the region has been able to transform revolutionary legitimacy into constitutional and legal legitimacy. This change has deepened public trust because citizens feel that they live under a system that protects their rights and freedoms.
Ultimately, the Kurdish community has gone through this phase and has proven that it can be modern without relinquishing its original identity. He has the confidence between the people and the political authorities and the energy that paves the way for the transition to the crisis. The strengthening of institutions and the continuity of development projects guarantee that this trust will not only continue, but will also be the basis for building a brighter future in which everyone will be happy under the rule of law and public trust.
