Global and Kurdish theatre groups gather in historic cultural event in Northern Kurdistan.
The Amed International Theatre Festival has officially begun in the city of Amed in Northern Kurdistan, bringing together theatre artists and troupes from 30 countries under the theme “Dialogue for Peace.”
The opening ceremony was attended by the co-mayors of Amed Municipality, Jessica Kawe, Berfin Emkdar, and an artistic delegation from the Kurdistan Region, including Sirwan Usman and Hiwa Suad. A large number of theatre practitioners from Northern Kurdistan also participated.
The festival opened with a welcoming ceremony for visiting guests and theatre groups, followed by a cultural tour through the historic streets and landmarks of Amed. The programme is scheduled to continue over three days.
On the second day, several high-level theatrical performances were staged, receiving strong appreciation from audiences and participants alike. The festival brought together both local and international theatre groups from Turkey and various countries around the world.
A key highlight of the second day was the performance of the play “Morashin,” written and directed by Dr Qutbeddin Sadqi and produced by the Amed Municipality Theatre Group. The Kurdish drama was performed on the city’s main theatre stage and was widely praised for its emotional depth and artistic strength, with audiences noting its potential to inspire further artistic productions.
Festival organizers described the event as an important cultural platform for artistic exchange and dialogue, emphasizing theatre’s role in promoting peace and mutual understanding across nations.
