Book on Kurdish clothing launched in Erbil ceremony

The publication explores the history, types, and cultural significance of Kurdish dress from a national and contemporary perspective.
A special ceremony was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Erbil to launch the book “Kurdish Clothing — History, Types, Explanation and a Contemporary National Understanding,” authored by researcher Hema Salar. The event was organized by the Yad Cultural Institution under the supervision and presence of Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw.
The ceremony was attended by Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities, Arian Salahuddin, Deputy Minister of Culture and Youth, along with government officials, academics, writers, and cultural figures. The book was officially introduced and distributed to attendees at the conclusion of the event.
Printed under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, the publication focuses on the historical development and diversity of Kurdish clothing across the four parts of Kurdistan, presenting it as a key element of national identity and cultural heritage.
During the event, Deputy Minister Arian Salahuddin highlighted the Ministry’s support for cultural initiatives that preserve Kurdish authenticity and strengthen national heritage. A detailed presentation was also delivered on traditional Kurdish clothing, emphasizing its cultural and historical significance.
Participants were given an overview of the book’s main themes, which combine historical research with a contemporary national perspective on Kurdish dress and its evolution.
The book is considered an important addition to Kurdish cultural literature, contributing to the preservation and documentation of traditional clothing and protecting it from distortion or loss.
