Kawlokan Corniche project aims to boost tourism in Rawanduz

A new tourism development project in Rawanduz is expected to strengthen the area’s tourism sector and support broader economic development across the Soran Independent Administration.
The Kawlokan Corniche project is being implemented as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Tourism Master Plan. Rawanduz District Governor Ahmed Qadir said the project is one of several developments included in the master plan approved by the KRG prime minister.
The first phase includes the construction of five ponds along a four-kilometer stretch of the river, along with landscaping, cafés, and restaurants.
The project also focuses on water conservation and is expected to support groundwater levels, agriculture, and fish farming. Officials say the development has already created dozens of jobs for local residents.
Several other tourist sites in Rawanduz and surrounding areas have also been incorporated into the master plan, with designs completed and implementation underway.
The broader tourism plan covers Soran, Choman, Rawanduz, and nearby areas. Developed with local experts and international companies, the plan aims to attract visitors throughout the year, create economic opportunities, and develop the region as a major tourism destination while protecting its natural environment.
