For the first time, the town of Khurmal hosted its annual Mulberry Festival, bringing together agriculture, culture, and local craftsmanship in a vibrant celebration of the region’s heritage.
Held over three days among Khurmal’s orchards, the festival attracted visitors from across the Kurdistan Region and highlighted the area’s famous mulberry production. Farmers showcased a variety of natural products, including fresh mulberries, mulberry molasses, dried mulberries, and other locally produced goods, reflecting the region’s rich agricultural traditions.
A major attraction of the festival was a handicrafts exhibition featuring the work of local women. Visitors had the opportunity to view and purchase handmade products, including embroidery, woven items, traditional crafts, and artistic designs. The exhibition not only displayed creative talent but also highlighted the important role of women in preserving cultural heritage and supporting household incomes.
The festival combined cultural activities with economic opportunities, creating a platform to promote local products while encouraging tourism in the area. Organizers described the event as a step toward strengthening Khurmal’s cultural identity and showcasing its agricultural potential.
The successful conclusion of the first Mulberry Festival demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for celebrating local traditions. Organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition, helping to further promote Khurmal as a destination known for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and locally produced goods.
