KRG advances Erbil 150-meter road project despite regional tensions

Despite ongoing regional challenges and drone attacks, the Kurdistan Regional Government continues to push forward with major infrastructure projects, including the expansion of the 150-meter road in Erbil.
The project, one of the largest strategic developments in the region, is progressing in multiple phases. Authorities have confirmed that a new section will soon be completed and opened, further easing traffic congestion and improving mobility across the city.
Stretching more than 74 kilometers around Erbil, the 150-meter road is designed as a high-speed ring road with modern infrastructure. So far, around 24 kilometers have been completed, while more than 46 kilometers remain under construction.
Initial phases of the project were carried out by Hemn Group, delivering high-quality sections that are now in use. These parts have significantly reduced traffic, enhanced road safety, and shortened travel times for residents.
Upcoming stages will extend the road from key routes including Koya, Kirkuk, Mosul, and Duhok, completing the full ring around the city. The expressway is designed without traffic lights at major intersections and includes service lanes, bridges, underpasses, and advanced drainage systems.
The project was launched under the direction of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, with earlier phases costing over $200 million. Key sections include major interchanges, bridges, and pedestrian crossings, marking a significant step in modern urban planning in the Kurdistan Region.
Officials say the continued progress of the 150-meter road reflects the government’s commitment to development and public services, even amid ongoing regional instability.
