Kurdish visual artist Kurdo Qashani has taken part in a joint exhibition in Skövde, Sweden, where he presented his latest works alongside a group of Swedish painters.
Qashani was the only Kurdish artist participating in the exhibition, using the event as an opportunity to introduce Kurdish culture and identity to an international audience.
Speaking about his participation, Qashani said his aim extended beyond simply displaying paintings.
“My main goal is not merely to exhibit artwork, but to introduce Kurdish identity and culture to Swedish and international audiences,” he said.
He added that exhibitions of this kind are an important step in building international connections and highlighting the authenticity of the Kurdish people through art.
Qashani’s works at the exhibition focused on social themes, portraying both pain and hope while reflecting the human experience.
His paintings also embraced contemporary artistic styles, using modern techniques that drew the attention of visitors and local audiences.
Through these themes, the artist sought to show how changing realities of life continue to influence the wider global art scene.
Qashani said Sweden’s openness and support for cultural diversity have created valuable opportunities for Kurdish artists to build bridges between Kurdish and international art.
Visitors to the exhibition praised the presentation and expressed hope that similar activities would become a lasting part of the city’s cultural life.
Originally from Sulaymaniyah, Qashani has previously held several solo and joint exhibitions.
He said he plans to expand his artistic activities further and hopes to strengthen dialogue among artists from different countries through contemporary art.
