The Kurdish cinema film Manhole, directed by Dyako Bayiz, is set to be screened at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University in London, United Kingdom.
Director Dyako Bayiz announced that the screening, organised by Sawen Yasin, will take place in London and will feature performances by Rzgar Bahir, Dimen Zandi, Hama Sherwan, Yasin Omar, Shazada Jabbar, and Hevar Jabbar.
Bayiz stated that attendance is free of charge; however, participants must register in advance and arrive at the scheduled time. He also noted that the film is not suitable for children under the age of 14. In addition, he requested that audience members attend the screening wearing Kurdish traditional clothing as a way of reflecting the cultural identity of the event.
Speaking about the film’s storyline, the director explained that Manhole portrays the difficult life of Saman, a maintenance worker responsible for cleaning manholes, who lives under severe economic and psychological pressure. Delayed salaries, a child’s illness, and a harsh living environment force him into a moral dilemma between conscience and a dangerous decision.
According to Bayiz, the film addresses themes of poverty, hardship, and internal human conflict through a critical and humanitarian lens, shedding light on the struggles faced by individuals in difficult social conditions.
