A documentary film preserves the memory of the Anfal victims and sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in Kurdish history
The documentary film “Ar’ar and the Dogs of Ajaj” was screened in Erbil during a national and cultural ceremony highlighting the history of the Anfal genocide and preserving the memory of its victims.
The event was organized by the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Culture and Media Bureau, which presented the documentary as an important historical and artistic work documenting the crimes committed against the people of Kurdistan and serving as evidence of the suffering caused by the Anfal campaign.
The ceremony was attended by several government and political figures, including Dr. Saman Barzinji, Minister of Health, Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, and Dr. Salar Osman, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Culture and Media Bureau. Families of martyrs, Anfal survivors, and national figures also attended the event.
The documentary sheds light on one of the darkest chapters in Kurdish history by portraying the crimes of the former Iraqi regime during the Anfal campaign. Its purpose is to introduce the scale of this humanitarian tragedy to younger generations and the international community, ensuring that the suffering of the victims remains preserved in collective memory.
The screening ceremony featured official speeches and messages emphasizing the importance of documenting historical crimes and protecting the memory of those who lost their lives during the genocide.
During the event, the defense lawyer in the Anfal case and the plaintiffs who played a key role in bringing the former regime’s criminal Ajaj to justice were honored in recognition of their efforts toward achieving justice.
“Ar’ar and the Dogs of Ajaj” represents an artistic testimony to the wounds of the Anfal tragedy and a reminder of the importance of historical documentation, justice, and preserving the memory of the Kurdish people.
