A special archival exhibition celebrates the life and artistic contributions of one of Kurdistan’s leading cultural figures.
Erbil commemorated the anniversary of the late artist Jalal Bayar with a special archival exhibition celebrating his life and contributions to Kurdish art and culture. The event was organized under the supervision of Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw in cooperation with the Directorate of Cinema and Theatre and the Erbil branch of the Kurdistan Artists’ Syndicate.
The exhibition brought together artists, writers, intellectuals, and cultural figures to reflect on Bayar’s enduring influence on the Kurdish artistic movement. A collection of photographs, documents, manuscripts, and artworks traced the different stages of his creative career and highlighted his lasting impact on Kurdish cultural life.
Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Omid Khoshnaw described Bayar’s legacy as a source of inspiration for future generations, stressing that preserving the archives of pioneering Kurdish artists is both a cultural responsibility and a national duty.
Born in 1947, Jalal Bayar became one of the most prominent figures in contemporary Kurdish art. Throughout his career, he made significant contributions to the development of Kurdish culture through his artistic and literary work. He passed away on 27 June 2012, leaving behind a rich legacy that continues to document the artistic and social history of Kurdistan.
The exhibition offered visitors an opportunity to revisit Bayar’s creative journey and recognize his role in shaping modern Kurdish art. Through events such as this, Erbil continues to honor the artists whose work has helped preserve and promote Kurdish identity, culture, and heritage.
