Sweet simplicity: Crafting homemade fig jam

As summer fades into autumn, figs reach their peak ripeness, offering the perfect opportunity to make delicious homemade fig jam. This simple recipe turns these luscious fruits into a spread that captures the essence of the season.
Ingredients: 1 kg half-ripe figs, 1 kg sugar (brown sugar preferred for its natural qualities), 10 cloves (or garlic cloves, if desired), 1/2 cup lemon juice, and 1.5 cups water.
Tools: deep saucepan, mixing bowl, stirring utensil, and glass jars for storage.
Instructions: Wash the figs thoroughly in a deep bowl. Layer half the figs with half the sugar, then add the remaining figs and sugar, allowing the mixture to macerate. Transfer the fig and sugar mixture to a deep saucepan. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Add lemon juice and cloves, stirring to combine. Simmer the mixture for at least two hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Once the jam reaches the desired consistency, remove from heat. Transfer the hot jam into sterilized glass jars and seal immediately.
This simple process yields a rich, flavorful jam that can be enjoyed on toast, paired with cheese, or used as a unique ingredient in baking. The natural pectin in figs helps achieve a perfect set, while the lemon juice adds brightness and aids preservation.
Store your homemade fig jam in a cool, dark place. Once opened, refrigerate and consume within a few weeks for the best flavor and quality.
With this easy recipe, you can savor the taste of summer long into the cooler months, bringing a touch of homemade sweetness to your table.
