Kurdish Players Shine in Iraqi Women’s Futsal Team

The Iraqi women’s futsal team has made waves during the Asian Women’s Futsal Championship qualifiers, held earlier this year, thanks to a strong contingent of Kurdish players who have impressed with their remarkable skills. In preparation for the tournament, the team trained in Kuwait, where they faced the Kuwaiti women’s futsal team in two friendly matches.

A notable portion of the Iraqi team hails from Kurdistan, with several Kurdish athletes showcasing exceptional talent. In the months leading up to the qualifiers, a training camp was held in Kuwait with 14 players, 7 of whom were Kurdish. Among them were Salar Abdulwahid, Bahra Dara, Sipal Shukur, Derin Mahmoud, Faiza Jalal, Awaz Younis, and Ilaf Hisameddin.

Their participation in the qualifiers and their remarkable performance on the field underline the growing prominence of Kurdish women in international sports, contributing significantly to the success of Iraq’s women’s futsal team.
