Franso Hariri Stadium set for major renovation in Erbil

The international Shahid Franso Hariri Stadium is set to undergo a major renovation, with 1.9 billion Iraqi dinars allocated for the project. The announcement was made by Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw, following approval from Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
Renovation work, which includes upgrading the stadium’s pitch and running track, is scheduled to begin in early June after the Stars of Iraq tournament concludes. The pitch will be replaced with a modern hybrid grass surface, similar to those used in top-tier international stadiums.
A planning meeting was held at the Governor’s Office, attended by Deputy Governor Masoud Karash, project engineers, and representatives from the implementing company. Governor Khoshnaw emphasized the importance of completing the project on time and pledged full support to ensure smooth progress.
The Shahid Franso Hariri Stadium, home to Erbil Club and the second largest stadium in Iraq, was built in conjunction with the club’s founding and named after Martyr Franso Hariri in 2001.
