Baghdad’s Excuses & Continuing the Policy of Pressure on the Kurdistan Region

By Tahseen Wsu Abdullah

The Iraqi political process is not based on the right foundation, but on the contrary, on a kind of policy of self-imposition and marginalization by the dominant structure in the process. This vision has opened the whole of Iraq to an uncertain future not only politically, but also economically, security and socially. This mentality is considered the dominant mentality of the ruler. Therefore, instead of finding a way out, the crises are deepening and becoming more difficult. According to observers and experts, the country’s future is not expected to improve with such a mentality except for disasters and crises.
One of the most complex and controversial issues, both at the level of the ruling structure and at the level of relations between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government, is the issue of the remaining conflicts and problems between Erbil and Baghdad. Although the constitution as the supreme of the state has resolved these issues, but as it is obvious in Iraq, what rules is not the constitution and laws, but on the contrary, what decides on decisive issues.
The Kurdistan Region, whether at the level of political leadership or at the of government and official institutions, has always emphasized that problems and conflicts must be resolved through an appropriate mechanism that reflects the characteristics of the Kurdistan Region. The consequences of this policy are obvious, what kind of disaster it has caused and what kind of crisis it has faced in the past. Currently, the same view is observed at the level of political power and the ruling structure towards the Kurdistan Region in order to create a new reality in the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and the federal state through the policy of maximum pressure and coercion. This autocratic mentality is directing all the major joints of the state in the service of the agenda and interests of a particular party. In order to achieve this goal, which is to completely return to the starting point, they must deprive the Kurdistan Region of its characteristics as enshrined in the principles of reconstruction of the new Iraq.
Negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad have sometimes reached a stalemate as a result of the Iraqi government’s constant excuses. The political authorities in order to impose their unilateral will every time and put another issue into the negotiation process so that even if they reach an agreement, but in the implementation of the agreement bring new conditions and demands Retain his constitutional and legal rights and reduce all disputes only to the salary issue, which is only part of the process.
Therefore, what can be seen in the intention of the Iraqi government and the hegemonic parties towards the Kurdistan Region is to continue the policy of keeping the issues hanging and reducing the legitimate demands of the Kurdistan Region. This kind of policy in Iraq, which is currently being pursued against the Kurdistan Region, is directly related to the Iraqi elections scheduled for November 11, in order to attract the attention of the Iraqi street. Because in the past few years it has become clear that any party or personality that constantly opposes the Kurdistan Region and its constitutional demands will win many votes in the elections.
