Erbil SC strengthened their grip on first place in the Iraqi Stars League with a 2–0 away victory over Mosul SC on Friday evening, setting several notable records in the process. The match was played as part of the 11th round of the league and confirmed Erbil’s status as the most consistent side of the season so far.
Erbil took control of the game early and translated their dominance into a breakthrough in the 21st minute, when Sherzod Teymirov opened the scoring after receiving an assist from Mustafa Qabil. The visitors continued to dictate the tempo and pressed Mosul deep into their own half throughout the first period.
In the second half, Erbil maintained their attacking momentum. Mustafa Qabil once again proved influential by winning a penalty after breaking into Mosul’s penalty area. Teymirov stepped up to convert the spot kick, scoring his second goal of the night and sealing the victory for the league leaders.
The result extended Erbil’s unbeaten run, making them the only club yet to suffer a defeat this season. They also remain the team with the highest number of wins, having secured eight victories so far. Teymirov’s brace took his tally to 11 goals in 11 appearances, a league-leading achievement, while goalkeeper Kumail Saadi continued his impressive form by recording six clean sheets in nine matches. Erbil’s attacking unit has now scored 16 goals, and their defense has conceded just six in 11 games, ranking among the strongest in the league.
Erbil will next turn their attention to the Kurdistan Clasico, where they are set to host Duhok on Tuesday at the Franco Hariri Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
