Erbil SC star Mustafa Qabil out for two months

Erbil SC faces a major setback after the Kurdistan Derby against Zakho SC, as star forward Mustafa Qabil will be sidelined for approximately two months due to a recurring thigh injury.
The injury occurred during the 18th round of the Iraq Stars League. Qabil was forced to leave the pitch before the second half after aggravating a previous injury in his right thigh. This marks the third time this season that the young striker has suffered a setback in the same muscle group.
Pishtiwan Shabib, supervisor of Erbil SC’s football team, confirmed the diagnosis to Kurdistan24. He said the club’s medical staff has prescribed a full eight-week recovery period to ensure the injury heals completely and to prevent long-term damage to Qabil’s career. “Mustafa’s thigh is severely strained. If he does not remain patient and attempts an early return, he faces a serious risk to his long-term health,” Shabib warned.
Qabil has been a key player for Erbil this season, contributing five goals and three assists in the Iraq Stars League. His absence is a heavy blow as the team prepares for upcoming fixtures against Al-Qasim and Diyala. The injury also complicates his international duties. Qabil was recently called up to the Iraqi National Team for the upcoming World Cup Play-off matches, and reports indicate the Iraqi Football Association may still involve him in the national camp to oversee his rehabilitation under specialized medical supervision.
