Classico brings a Kurdish story to the big screen

The Erbil Directorate of Cinema and Theater hosted a special screening of Classico at Empire Cinema as part of its “Cinema and Audience” project.
Directed by Halkawt Mustafa, the film follows the story of two Kurdish brothers of short stature living in a village in the Kurdistan Region. After the father of a young woman refuses to let one of the brothers marry his daughter because of his physical stature and financial situation, the brothers embark on a challenging journey to Spain in hopes of meeting football star Cristiano Ronaldo and presenting him with a special gift that they believe could change their lives.
According to Shakhawan Mustafa, Director of Cinema and Theater in Erbil, the film explores themes of hope, determination, self-belief, and the pursuit of dreams through the brothers’ emotional and difficult journey.
Under the “Cinema and Audience” initiative, the Erbil Directorate of Cinema and Theater offers free film screenings every Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Empire Cinema in Erbil.
