Kurdistan Region moves to fully electronic salary payments

The “MyAccount” initiative completes its transition from cash and manual payments
to direct bank transfers for public-sector employees and retirees

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s “MyAccount” banking initiative has reached its final stage, with all public-sector salaries in the Kurdistan Region set to be distributed electronically beginning in September.
Under the established plan, manual and cash salary payments will end, with public-sector employees and other beneficiaries receiving their monthly salaries directly through personal bank accounts.
The “MyAccount” team announced that employee registration has been completed. The transition is part of an agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq, under which beneficiaries whose salaries are not processed through “MyAccount” after August 31, 2026, will have their financial entitlements suspended.
The initiative represents a major step in modernizing the Region’s financial system. Salary payments through bank cards and the “MyAccount” platform are intended to reduce administrative procedures, improve the reliability and timeliness of salary distribution, and strengthen the banking and financial sector.
The Kurdistan Regional Government launched “MyAccount” on February 28, 2023, as a financial inclusion program for civil servants, security personnel, and retirees.
Following biometric registration, beneficiaries were gradually provided with bank accounts and debit cards, allowing them to access their salaries through ATMs and banking networks. Both local banks in the Kurdistan Region and licensed Iraqi private and state-owned banks have participated in the program.
The transition reflects the growing role of digital financial systems in modern economies. By moving salary payments into the banking system, the Kurdistan Region aims to increase financial transparency, improve the security of financial transactions, and reduce administrative and cash-handling procedures.
After three years of implementation, the “MyAccount” initiative marks a significant step toward integrating the Kurdistan Region’s public-sector payroll system with modern electronic banking standards.
