Kurdish music and instruments

The Kurdish people consider some of these instruments as part of their authentic cultural

The most authentic instruments used in Kurdish music were zurna and dehol. Later, other instruments were introduced into this music, including shemshall, zurna, nay, dehol, def, dembek, tembur, kemanche, diwan, and ney, each of which has its own importance.
Kurdish musical instruments are an important part of Kurdish cultural and musical heritage. Throughout the history of Kurdish melody creation, musical instruments have played a significant role. This role and importance remain significant today, and among the people, they continue to be central to the enthusiasm and passion for Kurdish songs. Some of the instruments that have been used by the people of Kurdistan are:
First: Tembur, a stringed instrument that is very important in Kurdish music. It is especially used in the Hawraman region, particularly in Hawraman Jawaro and Takht in eastern Kurdistan. It has now been integrated with other melodies, and in the Hawraman region, they have taken advantage of this expansion.
Second: Blwér (flute) is a wind instrument made of wood that has a soft and emotional sound. It is mostly used in villages by shepherds and in special village gatherings for Kurdish songs.
Third: Zurna is another wind instrument that has a loud and strong sound. It is often used with the dehol, especially in picnics and public events such as Newroz and spring celebrations.
Fourth: Dehol is a percussion instrument that is often used with zurna, especially in celebrations and events.
Fifth: Def is a circular percussion instrument used in many types of Kurdish music, especially in large concerts or special women’s events in villages.
Sixth: Shemshall is another type of wind instrument used in Kurdish music. It is often played by specialists to support other instruments in Kurdish songs.
Seventh: Kemanche is a stringed instrument played with a bow and is used in many types of Kurdish music. However, kemanche is also a universal instrument and now has great value and importance worldwide, used not only by Kurds but also by other nations.
Eighth: Oud is a stringed instrument used in classical Kurdish music. It is also used in some Arab regions, but its authenticity is attributed to the Kurds.
Ninth: Santur is a stringed instrument that is played with sticks and is used in some types of Kurdish music. It has also been mentioned in Kurdish Mawlawi poetry.
Tenth: Juzele is a wind instrument used in some areas of Kurdistan to support dehol and drums.
These instruments are an important part of Kurdish musical and cultural expression, and each has its own characteristics and sound. Some of these instruments are not exclusive to Kurds and are used in the cultures of other peoples in the region, but they have a special way of being used in Kurdish music.
