A Kurdish Athlete set a New European Weightlifting Record

A Kurdish Athlete from the city of Şırnak in northern Kurdistan has set a new European record in weightlifting, winning first place in the European Youth & U15 Championships.
The championship, held in Madrid, Spain, saw him claim one gold and two silver medals.
The athlete, Sefkan Sümen, delivered an outstanding performance in the 88kg weight class. He successfully lifted 145kg in the snatch, breaking the European youth record and earning the gold medal in that discipline.
In the clean and jerk, he lifted 172kg, adding two silver medals to his tally. His combined lifts secured him second place overall in the European Championships
Sefkan, the Kurdish athlete, represented the Turkish national team at the event.
He is considered one of the rising stars in weightlifting from northern Kurdistan, Turkey, and Europe. Previously, he has won four gold medals in Turkey and three bronze medals in European competitions. This victory, however, marked a special milestone, as he not only became a European champion but also broke the championship record.
