“Taratil Mulawwana” brings together painters from across Iraq in a shared visual dialogue at the Media Gallery in Erbil
Erbil’s Media Gallery has become a vibrant meeting point for Iraqi artists through a joint painting exhibition titled “Taratil Mulawwana” (Colourful Hymns), which highlights the diversity and unity of Iraq’s contemporary art scene. The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw, along with artists, critics, and cultural figures.
Organized by the Directorate of Painting and Handicrafts under the General Directorate of Culture and Arts in Erbil, the exhibition aims to strengthen cultural ties between artists from central and southern Iraq and those in the Kurdistan Region. Ten well-known painters participated, each presenting three works that reflect their artistic vision and cultural background.
The displayed artworks covered a wide range of styles, including classical, modern, and impressionist approaches. Each piece explored themes related to human experience, identity, and environmental concerns, offering visitors a rich and varied visual journey.
During his visit, Governor Omed Khoshnaw toured the exhibition and engaged directly with participating artists, praising their contributions and the quality of their work. He emphasized Erbil’s growing role as a center for cultural exchange and artistic creativity.
Khoshnaw stated that Erbil remains committed to supporting artists and providing an environment that fosters cultural development, describing art as a vital bridge connecting communities and cities across Iraq.
Visitors and participants described the exhibition as a successful cultural initiative that brought together different artistic perspectives in one space. They noted the high level of craftsmanship and creativity displayed, reflecting the continued growth of the visual arts scene in the region.
“Taratil Mulawwana” was widely seen not just as an art exhibition, but as a cultural dialogue between Iraq’s diverse regions, reinforcing Erbil’s position as an open hub for creativity and artistic exchange.
