Shaima Zahawi: A Highlight of Kurdish Style in European Fashion

At a grand cultural celebration in the German capital, Berlin, the talented Kurdish artist and designer “Shaima Zahawi” amazed those present and critics in the global fashion world by showcasing a collection of distinctive Kurdish clothing designs.
This exhibition, organised to introduce authentic Kurdish culture in European centres, presented Shaima Zahawi as a designer who can build a bridge between “historical authenticity” and “contemporary modernism.”
In her designs, Shaima Zahawi has meticulously reworked the classical patterns and lines of Kurdish clothing. Through the use of high-quality fabric and colour blending, she has managed to transform Kurdish clothing from the framework of national dress into a “Haute Couture” product that is entirely fitting for the stages of Europe.
Those present at the exhibition, including designers, artists, and various cultural representatives, admired the details Shaima used in weaving the lace and Kurdish handmade patterns.

Berlin: A Platform for Echoing Kurdish Culture
In this exhibition, the garments were not seen merely as pieces of fabric but as a political and cultural statement. By reflecting Kurdish culture in her designs, Shaima Zahawi successfully conveyed a message: “Kurdistan possesses a rich heritage that can be an important part of the world of global fashion.”
Shaima Zahawi’s exhibition in Berlin opened a new door for Kurdish designers, giving them greater confidence in their own culture and the ability to present it to the world.

Reactions
One of the participants in the exhibition, a fashion expert, summarised the event: “I did not merely see clothing; I saw the story and history of a nation on the stage of Berlin, designed in a very enchanting manner.”
According to observers, Shaima Zahawi’s achievement marks a turning point in introducing Kurdish culture in Europe and presenting it in a contemporary and dignified manner.
