Surge in demand for Kurdish bitter gum water

Kurdish bitter gum water, a traditional skin care remedy, is experiencing a notable increase in demand, particularly for its skin-tightening properties. Despite this rising interest, the product remains scarce in local markets, especially in Shaqlawa.

Bitter gum water is produced through a unique process that precedes the creation of Kurdish gum. While many people utilize this natural resource for various purposes, a significant amount is exported individually, rather than through government channels.

The popularity of bitter gum water stems from its effectiveness in beautifying the skin. Users are encouraged to soak a clean cotton pad in the liquid and gently wipe their faces morning and evening. Many report visible improvements in skin brightness and firmness after regular use.

Additionally, a popular homemade recipe combines bitter gum water with starch and rose water. To prepare this mixture, heat bitter gum water with a small amount of starch over low heat until it thickens. Then, add rose water and a moisturizing cream. Once the mixture is firm, store it in the freezer. When ready to use, apply it to the face; once it dries, wash it off thoroughly.

As awareness of its benefits grows, local producers hope to meet the increasing demand for bitter gum water, making it more accessible to consumers in Kurdistan and beyond.
