Kurdish flag raised on Africa’s roof

Muhammad Bawakir appeared at an altitude of 5,895 meters on Mount Kilimanjaro while raising the flag of Kurdistan.
The Kurdish writer and poet, with the sacred flag of Kurdistan at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, was able to climb 5,895 meters up that mountain and reach its peak.
The aforementioned told Kurdish Globe: “I am Muhammad Bawakir. Since 1981, I have been mountaineering with the Hello mountaineering group, undertaking mountaineering trips once a week. Six months ago, on Mount Piramagrun, while resting at the Shahid Karzan camp, this idea formed in my mind. Once again during a trip to Mount Halgurd, that idea kept encouraging me – why don’t I go to Mount Kilimanjaro? Especially to Uhuru Peak?”
Regarding raising the Kurdistan flag, he says: “The flag of every country is sacred to me, so how could the flag of my own oppressed and divided homeland not be more sacred to me?”
About the weather conditions of the mountain he climbed, he says: “After ten hours of climbing with my guide (Barik), we reached the summit. It was so cold that we were shivering like leaves. When we arrived, it was six in the morning and the sun was still asleep. I was extremely delighted. The warmth of my love for reaching that summit gave me warmth. I had chosen the Marangu route, which is the shortest five-day route, but due to its difficulty, not everyone dares to attempt it.”
Regarding why this activity received so much attention in the media, he said: “Perhaps the attention is due to my age. The day I reached the summit of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania was June 16, 2025, and I was just two weeks away from turning 68 years old. “
