Erbil screens ‘Marianne’ in Cinema and Audience project

At Empire Cinema in Erbil, the Erbil Cinema Directorate—affiliated with the General Directorate of Arts—continued its ‘Cinema and Audience’ initiative with a special screening of the film Marianne. The event was attended by the Governor of Erbil, officials from the General Directorate of Arts, as well as a large number of artists and cinema enthusiasts.
Written and directed by Rafiq Hana, Marianne is a social drama presented in the Syriac language with Kurdish subtitles. The film’s unique concept features children performing adult roles, portraying characters such as a mother and father, police chief, school principal, judge, and driver. Their performances received widespread admiration from attendees for their skillful and convincing portrayals.
Following the screening, the Governor of Erbil and the General Director of Culture and Arts honored the director and performers, congratulating them and wishing them continued success in their cinematic endeavors.
The Cinema and Audience project continues to screen films in Erbil with the aim of developing local cinema and strengthening the connection between Kurdish films and audiences.
