KRG Prime Minister opens Majidi hospital in Erbil

Masrour Barzani praises modern healthcare investment, urges stability, and reaffirms commitment to 24-hour electricity across the Kurdistan Region

Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, on Thursday inaugurated the new Majidi Hospital in Erbil, describing the facility as an important step toward improving healthcare services in the Kurdistan Region.
After touring several departments of the hospital, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the new facility would serve citizens across Kurdistan with high-quality medical care.
“I hope no one is ever forced to visit a hospital,” Barzani said during the opening ceremony. “But if someone needs medical treatment, this hospital has been built at a very advanced level and organized in a way that can meet the needs of the people of Kurdistan.”
Barzani also encouraged investors to continue supporting development in the region, noting that the new hospital is equipped with modern technology and supported by skilled medical professionals.
“What I have seen here is a highly advanced hospital with state-of-the-art equipment,” he said. “We have excellent doctors, nurses, and staff who are capable of providing the best service to our citizens.”
During his remarks, the Prime Minister also addressed the broader security situation in the region, referring to recent tensions and attacks targeting Erbil. He thanked residents for their resilience and assured them that the government is working to protect the region from instability.
“It is unfortunate that our region continues to face tension and conflict,” Barzani said. “Recently, outlawed terrorist groups targeted Erbil. I thank the people of Kurdistan for their patience and resilience. We are making every effort to keep Kurdistan and its people safe and away from war and chaos.”
Barzani also spoke about the government’s ongoing efforts to address electricity shortages through the KRG’s “Light Project,” which aims to provide 24-hour electricity across Kurdistan.
He acknowledged that recent attacks on oil and gas fields have affected production, causing temporary reductions in electricity supply. However, he stressed that the government remains committed to fulfilling its promise to deliver uninterrupted electricity to all cities, towns, and villages in the region.
“We remain committed to providing 24-hour electricity,” he said. “The recent disruptions are temporary, and we hope the situation returns to normal soon.”
The Prime Minister also called on the federal authorities in Baghdad and the Federal Government of Iraq to prevent further attacks on the Kurdistan Region.
“We call on the federal government not to allow these outlawed terrorists to attack Kurdistan any further,” Barzani said. “We cannot remain silent forever.”
At the end of the ceremony, Barzani congratulated the hospital’s owner, Haji Ahmed, as well as the people of Kurdistan and the residents of Erbil. He also praised the doctors and staff for their work in establishing the facility.
“I wish you continued success,” he said. “God willing, Kurdistan will remain safe and prosperous.”
