Between 28 February and 20 April 2026, the Kurdistan Region faced 809 attacks, resulting in the deaths of 20 civilians and injuries to 123 others, according to data from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Department of Media and Information.
Despite maintaining neutrality in regional conflicts, the Kurdistan Region saw civilians and the private sector bear the brunt of the violence, suffering both human casualties and widespread material damage.
Erbil Governorate recorded the highest number of incidents, with 477 attacks, including 419 drone strikes and 58 missile strikes. These attacks killed 10 civilians and injured 83 others, while 726 residents experienced damage to homes, vehicles, and businesses.
In Slemani and Halabja governorates, 235 attacks were reported, consisting of 194 drone strikes and 41 missile strikes. These resulted in 3 civilian deaths and 6 injuries, with dozens more affected by attacks on civilian locations.
Soran district experienced 68 attacks, leading to 7 deaths and 34 injuries, along with material damage affecting 35 residents.
Duhok Governorate recorded 29 drone attacks, with private sector companies targeted more than 13 times, causing significant damage to residential and commercial properties.
The report stresses that these attacks were directed at civilian areas under unfounded justifications. While widely condemned internationally, the KRG has formally called on the federal government in Baghdad to hold those responsible accountable and to protect the sovereignty of both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
