Kurdistan Region aligns with international recommendations

Dindar Zebari highlights significant progress in human rights and governance

Dr. Dindar Zebari, Coordinator for International Recommendations in the Kurdistan Regional Government, announced that the Kurdistan Region has successfully implemented the majority of international recommendations. Speaking on the sidelines of discussions at the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination in Geneva, Zebari highlighted the region’s commitment to international standards and efforts to combat racial discrimination.
Zebari emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has made significant strides in adhering to international obligations. He noted the region’s dedication to religious freedom and the protection of various communities, underscoring the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga forces in safeguarding these rights.
The coordinator stressed that Kurdistan is leading both domestically and globally in demonstrating compliance with international norms. Achievements include the abolition of the death penalty, progress in addressing domestic abuse, and the promotion of religious freedom. The Kurdistan Region has received positive recognition for these advancements on the global stage.
Zebari also highlighted the importance of religious and national identity, noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government has actively worked to secure international acknowledgment and address crimes against religious communities. The region’s participation in the Geneva meeting was crucial in reinforcing its commitment to coexistence and the fight against racial discrimination.
Additionally, Zebari praised the regional human rights plan and the effective coordination between the Kurdistan Region and international agencies. He noted that the region is home to over 1,600 female journalists and that Yazidi individuals are recognized and supported through various administrative and educational initiatives.
Dr. Zebari concluded by emphasizing the significant progress made in human rights and the importance of global acknowledgment of Kurdistan’s democratic efforts. He stated that the regional plan report has been well-received, with over 70% of recommendations already implemented, signaling a positive impact for the future.
