The capital of culture hosts symphony orchestra

Slemani Symphony Orchestra for the second time during this year hosted a musical concert in the city of Slemani, in the Kurdistan Region.

Under the direction of prominent composer Abdullah Majid Sagrma, the Slemani Symphony Orchestra featured leading local musicians from Slemani, including a nine-year-old violinist, to perform a selection of both local and international music.

Sagrma, with a distinguished PhD in composition from the UK, currently serves as the Head of the Department of Music at the College of Fine Arts, University of Sulaimani.

The Slemani Symphony Orchestra kicked off its first concert in Mach 2024 in Slemani. A number of musicians from other countries also participated in the orchestra.

Hardi Majid, the assistant composer, speaking to the media outlined the difference between this concert and the one held in March, saying “the difference mainly lied in the selection of the pieces of music and the size of the orchestra.”

With regards to the pieces of music, Majid said that there was a mixture of international and Kurdish pieces of music written by Ako Aziz.

He also mentioned that for this concert Shwan Rzgar Agha, aged nine, was on violin during this concert to showcase his talents to the audience.

The Sulaimani Symphony Orchestra is a dynamic ensemble comprised of educators, students, and graduates from the Department of Music at the College of Fine Arts, Sulaimani University.

Slemani Symphony Orchestra for years has been conducted different activities inside the Kurdistan Region and abroad and has been able to showcase its latest artistic endeavor.
