Foreign demand rises for Kurdistan honey

Kurdistan honey is gaining international recognition as one of the finest honeys in the world, prized for its quality, aroma, and taste.

Ahmed Pishdari, head of the Kurdistan Beekeepers’ Organization, told Kurdish Globe that honey from the mountainous regions of Kurdistan, particularly Hawraman, Qandil, and Haji Omaran, has topped global laboratory tests and is 100% natural. “Kurdistan honey has gained global trust and has been designated as the best type of honey in laboratories worldwide,” he said.
In 2023, under the supervision of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Prime Minister, the region began exporting honey internationally. “We hope this support continues so Kurdistan honey can reach all global markets, especially in Europe,” Pishdari added.
He emphasized that the honey is entirely handmade and cultivated locally. The mountainous terrain provides an ideal environment for beekeeping, and different varieties are now produced for gifts, medicinal use, and specialty consumption.
“Kurdistan honey challenges global brands,” Pishdari noted. “Consulates and foreign representatives in Erbil often request it as a gift to take back to their countries because its taste and aroma are unmatched.”
With increasing international demand, Kurdistan honey is positioning itself as a premium product on the global stage, showcasing the region’s natural resources and craftsmanship.
