Documentary film “The Day the Sun Didn’t Rise” screened in Erbil

The dramatic documentary film The Day the Sun Didn’t Rise was screened at a special event attended by senior political and cultural figures, including Fazil Mirani, Head of the Executive Committee of the Political Bureau; Zaim Ali, member of the Political Bureau; Dr. Salar Osman, Head of the Culture and Media Department; Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw; Dilshad Barzani; and several members of the KDP Central Committee.
The film was produced by Berivan Mohammed Mala Asaad and centers on her personal search for her father’s identity, while also highlighting her role in the fight against ISIS as an adviser, translator, and soldier in the German army.
According to the producer, the film carries a message beyond personal loss. She said the work reflects the pain of losing her father at the age of ten and seeks to draw attention to the need to protect journalists and war correspondents, noting that her father was among those who lost their lives in conflict zones.
Berivan Mohammed Mala Asaad stressed the importance of safeguarding war correspondents, stating that many forces seek to silence the voice of the country. She emphasized the need for unity, recalling the solidarity shown during the period of the fight against ISIS.
