Erbil Ecology Park: A model for sustainability and cultural preservation

Erbil has unveiled a transformative project that blends environmental innovation with cultural heritage: the Erbil Ecology Park. Spanning 5,000,000 square meters along the 120-Meter Road (Makhmur Road), the park is designed as a benchmark for sustainable urban development in the Kurdistan Region.
Built on the principles of a “Circular Economy,” the park integrates recycled and repurposed industrial materials into its architecture, while an advanced biological filtration system purifies water to sustain its lakes and forests. This combination of technology and ecology turns the park into a living laboratory for eco-friendly solutions.
Erbil Ecology Park also offers modern infrastructure and services with minimal environmental impact, including an electric transportation network and a tram system to reduce carbon emissions. Visitors can enjoy cultural hubs such as museums and libraries, a Kurdish lodge, a zoo, and a sports center, all designed to harmonize historical authenticity with contemporary living.
The project aims to improve the city’s climate, support biodiversity, and position Erbil as a global destination for eco-tourism—where humans and nature coexist in balance. It stands as a landmark example of how environmental stewardship and cultural preservation can shape the city of the future
