Kurdistan Region calls for end to repeated attack

KRG condemns drone strikes on civilian areas and urges respect for regional stability amid ongoing tensions

Although the Kurdistan Region has consistently positioned itself as a factor of peace and stability amid regional tensions, it has continued to face repeated attacks targeting its security and civilian areas.
During the recent forty days of regional conflict, the Kurdistan Region was not a party to the fighting, yet it was repeatedly struck, resulting in civilian casualties. According to Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) reports, 17 people were killed and dozens more wounded in these incidents.
Officials stated that most of the attacks were carried out by armed militia groups identifying themselves as the “Resistance Front,” which are described as illegal and outlawed formations.
They also noted that U.S.-provided missile and anti-drone defense systems deployed in Erbil helped prevent further casualties and reduced the potential scale of damage.
Even after the announcement of a ceasefire, the Kurdistan Region has reportedly continued to face drone attacks. The KRG Ministry of Interior condemned these incidents, stating that several drones were intercepted and shot down.
In its statement, the Ministry reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to peace and stability and will not be part of any escalation or conflict. It called on all parties to stop targeting civilian areas and to respect the security and stability of the region.
The Ministry also expressed concern that continued attacks are being carried out by groups opposed to stability and development, warning that such actions threaten civilian life and regional security.
According to published figures cited in local reports, the number of casualties in the Kurdistan Region during the conflict was higher than those reported among some directly involved parties, despite the Region’s neutral stance.
